Assam Society of Bangalore Announces the Silver Jubilee Edition of Spring Fest, April 4-5, 2026, Celebrating the Spirit of Bihu Beyond Assam
Celebrating Assamese Culture Beyond Assam and Laying the Foundation for a Permanent Cultural Centre
Bengaluru: The Assam Society of Bangalore (ASoB), one of the oldest and most active socio-cultural organisations representing the Northeast diaspora in India, has announced the Silver Jubilee Edition of Spring Fest, scheduled for April 4-5, 2026, marking 25 years of Spring Fest celebrations and over four decades of sustained cultural, social, and community engagement in Bengaluru.
Scheduled for April 4-5, 2026, the Silver Jubilee edition is envisioned as more than a commemorative festival. It is positioned as a national-level cultural initiative aimed at showcasing Assamese culture beyond Assam, while initiating the foundation for a state-of-the-art Northeast Cultural & Community Centre in Bengaluru.
Founded in 1982, ASOB has long served as a cultural and community anchor for the Assamese and Northeast population in the city. While widely recognised for organising flagship celebrations such as Bihu and Durga Puja, the organisation’s work extends well beyond festivals. Over the years, ASOB has actively engaged in community welfare, disaster relief, youth development, cultural preservation, and inter-cultural dialogue, responding to both social needs and evolving aspirations of the diaspora.
In recent years, this broader vision has been structured under ASPIRE (Assam Society of Bangalore Initiative for Promotion of Innovation, Resilience, and Empowerment), a long-term framework that seeks to channel community energy into areas such as education. youth leadership, entrepreneurship, cultural documentation, and institutional partnerships. The Silver Jubilee year represents a significant transition, from periodic celebrations to institution-building and future-focused initiatives that will serve generations to come.

A Legacy Beyond the Festival
A key outcome of the Silver Jubilee initiative is the planned establishment of a permanent Northeast Cultural & Community Centre in Bengaluru. Conceived as a long-term institution, the Centre will provide spaces for performances, learning, archives, youth engagement, innovation-led initiatives, and community support, aligning closely with ASOB’s ASPIRE vision.
The proposed Centre will be created in memory of Late Zubeen Garg, as a lasting cultural institution inspired by his role as a cultural bridge and a voice that resonated far beyond regional boundaries. Reporting. Manjula Reddy
